Something Random, a new studio founded by the creators of Superhot VR (2017), announced a pint-sized train simulator game simply called Toy Trains.

The miniature track-building game is all about connecting up disparate pockets of tiny people on the map with a variety of pieces, providing both basic and specialized bits so you can chug your way around or over obstacles.

Here’s how project lead Marcin Jóźwik describes it:

“At its core, it’s a game about making connections. On the gameplay side, we pair little houses with construction sites in order to build meeting places for inhabitants of that world – Railies. On the story side, it’s about the need to uphold connections with other people, even when it proves hard. The theme radiates even outside the game itself. Our goal was to make something that can connect various generations. A title that can be enjoyed by kids, their grandparents, and everyone in between.”

While it’s set to be Something Random’s first game as a studio, the team’s founding members all previously worked at SUPERHOT.

“The design principles in both games are basically the same,” explains Cezary, the team writer/designer. “We’re always laser-focused on delivering gameplay that is easy to understand, fluent, devoid of any unnecessary fluff. If the player is not having fun within the first 15 seconds of the game – we failed at our job.” The other thing that connects those games is that both of them make time stop – but in a very different sense.

Toy Trains is set to launch on Quest 2/3/Pro via App Lab, PSVR 2, and SteamVR headsets on January 16th, 2024. You can download a free demo now on Steam for PC VR headsets.

Super hot never got quest 3 update and they where top seller on quest store

    • scottosaur

Superhot doesn’t appear to be under active development. I believe many of the folks that worked on the VR game are now at this (different) studio.

I’d love to see a Q3 update, but many games aren’t going to get one if nobody is working on the game.

    • Totius

That is true, but come on.. superhot is bascially the same for quest and for PC. I am not sure it would change much an optimization for Q3

  • ViRGiN

    pathethic.

  • Ian DeMartino

I don’t think this is a new announcement, at least not for the game in general. Maybe it was announced today that its coming to Quest and PSVR2, but I’ve had a demo for this in my Steam library for weeks.

  • Would be nice to get more hardcore VR experiences.

VR is mostly jus cartoons…99% cartoons(feels this way).

Unreal Engine VR Injector is the only hope. Wouldn’t be surprised if Quest games see less purchases cause of UEVR.

    • ViRGiN

      That’s just delusional.
Modded VR GTA5 and Cyberpunk did nothing for PCVR as a whole.

      • The only hope for people that want hardcore experiences in VR…not for the VR itself.

      • Baldrickk

I mean, the mods for them kinda suck – Cyberpunk performance is awful even on flatscreen, and both the mod for that and the only mod that actually gives you access to the full game in GTA use head aim…

        • ViRGiN

GTA use head aim? What a bullshit. I played it years ago with full 6DOF controlls – exactly what you paint UEVRI now as hyper revolution.
Have fun playing a shooter where you cant really hold gun in two hands, and firing will be all over the place, because the game is programmed for you to press ‘aim down sight’ button for reduced recoil and stuff. Pathethic.

          • Baldrickk

There was a mod with hand aim. You couldn’t play the full game with it (it would break on cutscenes etc) It also, to the best of my knowledge, does not function correctly any more. I’m not saying that using hand aiming is revolutionary. I’m saying that it’s the BARE MINIMUM for making a game “properly” playable in VR.

          • ViRGiN

That minimum was never enough. Praydog is primarily for super burned out pcvr users who hate Meta for not making their games available on steam.

Looking at gameplay videos it looks absolutely pathetic. And if gta wasn’t enough to actually really interest anyone, why suddenly unreal injector would be the thing? Shills say stuff like 500 games, 1000 games.. so what? What are the games that people do actually enjoy on unreal?

          • Baldrickk

I’d play GTA in VR if it got a “proper” mod that let me.

And unreal covers probably around 45% of the market?

          • ViRGiN

45%? what games people actually wanted to play for years but didn’t cause there was no VR?
just wait and see, this mod is a flop and doesn’t help PCVR at all, if anything it destroys it even further.

praydog 6DOF is just emulated mouse. again, no accurate fireing without pressing a button responsible for ADS. this is purely for people butthurt that Quest is hyper popular and nobody cares about PCVR.

          • Baldrickk

I’m not talking VR games, where unity still dominates.
I mean across all games, i.e. the games uevri will work on.

Yes. We agree that the praydog mods are not great.

  • Stephan Jeffery

This looks really great if you are into trains, but where is SOOPA HAWT 2? Looks like a given, right? Sure, Super Hot is an older title, but I think I can speak for other veteran VR fans when I say we would willingly embrace a second Super Hawt. Even if it was the exact same as the first but more content in different scenarios, but imagine if they went beyond that, think the special releases on Pistol Whipped…..themed rooms you had to fight your way out of. You could do Western, Cavemen and women trying to fight you for a woolly mammoth carcass, a lone correctional officer trying to escape a prison riot, a Barbarian fighting their way out of a goblin mine…….I’ll shut up, but we want SOUPAHAWT DEUX!

    • ViRGiN

      > I think I can speak for other veteran VR fans when I say we would willingly embrace a second Super Hawt.
No, you speak for your burned-out ass who still want clickbait games of single mechanics. Go play Pistol Whip or something.

it’s FORMER Superhot developers, a studio called “Something Random” not the Superhot Team.

  • Guldhammer_DK

Everybody knows that men are the main group of VR headset buyers – and men likes building train models, landscapes, etc. So of course the first train game for VR, is made with cartoon style for kids, with the focus on social stuff, and fun and happy narration….dohh

I sincerely hope another company takes up train building in VR, and make it for adults with more realistic graphics – because this game looks way too childish.

    • Frantax

There’s more hardcore PCVR only model railway simulator Rolling line.

  • david vincent

They could make more millions with a sequel for Superhot VR (which sold much more than the first flatscreen Superhot)
Instead of that, they made a flatscreen sequel and then.. a train game for kids ?
    Go figure…

  • xyzs

I like the concept a lot but after watching GTA6 trailer, that feels like 250 years ago graphics.

  • fcpw

Do they make the graphics goofy/low-fi on purpose or because the hardware simply won’t support anything AAA looking?
