Secret Location’s Cinematic VR Epic ‘The Great C’ Now Available

Explore an apocalyptic wasteland to unravel a terrifying ancient mystery in this 37-minute sci-fi adventure.

A post-apocalyptic landscape fraught with danger. An omnipotent supercomputer. A young woman with nothing to lose.

This is The Great C, a cinematic VR science-fiction adventure bursting with hidden secrets, unfathomable danger, and plenty of jaw-dropping moments. Based on the short story from famed American science-fiction author, Philip K. Dick, The Great C takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where a catastrophic event has resulted in an omnipotent supercomputer ruling over the last of human civilization.

As part of an ongoing ritual to appease the uber-powerful machine, referred to by humanity as the “Great C,” each year a local village is required to send one of its own on a dangerous pilgrimage to “report” to Great C. The only catch? No one has ever returned from the journey… In this story we follow Clare, a villager whose life is turned upside-down when her fiance is unfortunately selected for the one-way trip. Throwing caution to the wind to brave the unknown forces lurking within this hostile outside world, Clare embarks on a quest in search of her beloved companion.

Produced by Emmy and Cannes Lion Award winning studio, Secret Location, with support from the Canadian Media Fund, The Great C is a major stepping stone for cinematic VR. Combining the immersive capabilities provided by VR technology with conventional filmmaking techniques, including cinematography, editing, and story-structure, Secret Location has crafted a one-of-a-kind journey that takes conventional storytelling to a whole new level.

The 37-minute animated tale extends throughout 22 breathtaking environments. A combination of volumetric graphics and dynamic scaling deliver a truly immersive cinematic experience in which you truly feel lost in this unforgiving world.

The dramatic storyline is accompanied by an equally dramatic original soundtrack composed by multi-platinum producer Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL. The talented producer/composer/DJ is responsible for scoring such hit films as Mad Max Fury Road, Deadpool and Peter Jackson’s upcoming Mortal Engines.

Dick’s previous work includes Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which served as the inspiration for the original Blade Runner, as well as The Man In The High Castle; of which the TV rendition just aired its third season. The Great C is yet another loyal adaptation of Dick’s brilliant storytelling, proving once again that the accomplished writer was far beyond its time.

The Great C is available now for just $5.99 on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, as well as at participating VR arcade establishments. A PlayStation VR version will be made available in the near future.

The immersive film debuted earlier this summer at the Venice Film Festival before making appearances at the Chicago Film Festival, the FEFFS in France, as well as several others.
