How Gamification with Augmented reality help the flight passengers on airport
Almost a month ago I was asked to go through a problem statement from an automotive retail company as part of my interview. The time frame was 2 days and the problem statement is,
Let’s understand the flight passenger
I researched to know the pattern and what flight passenger. What they do, how they do and Current analysis. I did secondary reach to collect the necessary details.
When Overnight stuck in the airport, long layover in the terminal, slow security line. yes, it happens. We might be at a loss as to what to do with all that free time before boarding.
Let’s distinguish a different stage of waiting times pass by the flight passenger
There will be emotional stress on each stage of this waiting
Once the check-in and passenger must wait for the onboard. Here when people generally start to unsettle themselves. Most of the time, passengers follow some kind of pattern, depending on time, to buy food, browsing a shop, buying a newspaper/magazine, or some duty-free products. As part of secondary research on social media and other websites, this is what people think about how to spend time on an airport
Solution: Gamification with Augmented reality
A mobile app that helps the user to engage more in the waiting period also helps with other necessary needs. The main features are,
✅ The user gets a notification and important changes of flight trip
✅ Shopping and others by playing games
✅ Collect points and get more benefits
✅ Easily find a way to common areas like restaurant, restrooms, etc.

Designing Screens
I usually start the wireframe with rapid sketching and then move to the tool. The rule I use for wireframe is CCPI. Understand the Context that leads to correct Content then to Presentation and Interaction. But let’s get into the visuals.
Good to have but not shown
Few things I would add/ improve that would result in a better version
- Could be considered multiple scenarios like heavy rush day and how its work within that context.
- Engage passenger as a team: Even the app can identify how many people are waiting for the same flight, would grate if can engage others on the same game.
- Shopping experience with AR can be done in a better way by including product identification and features
That’s it!
If you’ve reached this far, I appreciate your curiosity and effort. Thank you for your patience. Hope you got something new.
