With fab expansions on tap across the entire semiconductor industry, Intel today is laying out their own plans for significantly increasing their production capacity by announcing their intention to build a new $20 billion fab complex in Ohio. And should further demand call for it, the Ohio complex has space to house several more fabs.

While the investment may not match the tens of billions earmarked for new campuses in Arizona and Ohio, it would nonetheless constitute one of Oregon's largest capital projects to date. This proposed expansion represents a significant milestone, not just for Intel but for Oregon as well.

As part of its SCIP initiative, Intel has already signed a deal with Brookfield Asset Management, which will provide Intel about $15 billion to build its fab new fab in Arizona in exchange for a 49% stake in the project.
