Get fit with VR & AR glasses

--

Visit the biggest sports stadiums from your room, box against Mike Tyson and train for an Ironman. These could all be options for when you want to get fit with virtual and augmented technology.

But what does getting fit with these technologies look like and what kind of devices do you need?

One of the tools now available for starting digital sports are VR glasses. VR stands for Virtual Reality and is the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that allows one to interact in a seemingly real or physical way.

Because you wear glasses that allow you to play visuals from the internet, you can choose which sport you want to do, where you want to play it and with whom. Imagine standing in your living room, putting on the glasses and starting a workout with Mike Tyson in a packed Camp Nou stadium. Or playing basketball with friends in a NASA space station.

The glasses are getting better and better so your fitness or sports experience can be more intense and fun. Best of all, you don’t even have to leave the house, so if you’re short of time, it’s ideal to work out at home.

But for those who prefer to exercise outdoors, a solution seems to be on the way. That is, with AR glasses you can exercise outside as before but with extra help. AR stands for Augmented Reality and here you do not dive completely into a virtual world, but you look at the “real” world around you with new eyes. Information about your surroundings can be displayed, for example: geographical data, technical or historical facts, times, temperatures, etc.

So, for example, if you want to train for an Ironman triathlon, consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) run, you could put on glasses that project what schedule you should run on, how far you have to go and project a personal trainer.

It will probably take some time before this can be done, because do they stay in place both above and under water and who is going to make these glasses?

In any case, it is good to see that with this technology we can do more and more to improve our lives. For people who are not always that motivated to exercise, this can be a good incentive. It makes sports not only easier but also more fun. For now, it’s just a matter of waiting for good devices, but who knows, maybe in a while we’ll be standing together in a digital gym.

Ps. On this discord that I started, everyone who is interested can find more information about the metaverse and share their own ideas.
