Huawei has upgraded its sleek VR glasses and now they support 6DOF movement and 6DOF controllers that are very similar to the Oculus Touch. This is the first public hint that Google is back on track working on a new AR device , most probably glasses that should compete with Facebook and Apple. The headset should be based on Linux and its SimulaOS open-source VR windows manager (or maybe will it work via command-line like all Linux machines? :D). Learn more.

Last Oculus Quest update shows hints of an Oculus MR ecosystem. Facebook is continuously updating the Oculus Quest , its most successful device, and this week it has rolled out the runtime v16. I think that this update, together with the last ones, marks the beginning of a mixed reality ecosystem that is being built by Oculus.

This has not been the most interesting week in AR, VR, but I think that in the next times we’ll see some shots fired: in some days there will be the F8, the official shipment of the Vive Pro 2, then the Apple WWDC conference! Unreal Engine 5 gets released in Early Access. He’s most probably talking about the Oculus Quest 2 Pro.

Oculus has also partnered with Virtuclear to offer prescription lenses for the Quest 2 for $80. All the 3 major VR runtimes (Oculus, SteamVR, Microsoft) are now compatible with OpenXR , and this means that on the runtime layer on PC, now OpenXR has been fully integrated.
