Oculus plans to introduce in-app purchases to App Lab experiences. Oculus App Lab has been introduced by Facebook to give a way to indie developers to publish their applications for Quest without the need of passing Facebook’s strong store curation. Plus, the Netflix app has been in VR since the times of Gear VR/Oculus Go.

Oculus has also partnered with Virtuclear to offer prescription lenses for the Quest 2 for $80. All the 3 major VR runtimes (Oculus, SteamVR, Microsoft) are now compatible with OpenXR , and this means that on the runtime layer on PC, now OpenXR has been fully integrated. And yes, I use sarcasm a lot: “Hey Facebook, thanks for this”.

Oculus Quest 2 had a great Christmas. The sales of Oculus Quest 2 have been great during the holidays , and the Quest has been a Christmas gift very much appreciated by kids (but wasn’t there an age limit?). Many Rift users reported problems in using the Oculus Store on PC this week , in particular in downloading games.

An Apple AR headset has been a mainstay of the rumor mills for several years, and we expect Facebook to be creating an AR Oculus device. In another scenario, we may see game engines dominant, like Unity or Unreal. The idea of hyperlocal maps and meshes will fit naturally into the distributed world of edge storage and computing.

Everyone of us already knew that Gear VR was a platform almost abandoned when Oculus announced the Oculus Go. Anyway, officially, both Samsung and Oculus have continued at least to support it.
