Make It Rain In HBO’s ‘Magic Mike’ AR Experience

HBO’s new app brings the Finding Magic Mike contestants into your living room for a steamy show.

To celebrate the premiere of the upcoming reality TV show Finding Magic Mike, HBO Max has teamed up with the award-winning digital creative agency, Little Cinema, to launch a very steamy 8th Wall-powered experience called Finding Magic Mike AR Experience that’s guaranteed to leave any Magic Mike fan blushing.

You’re able to choose from one of several real-life contestants from the show and watch them boogie down with one of their signature dance routines anywhere you’d like, such as your home or office. Okay, maybe not your office. You can even show your dancer some love by making it rain with Magic Mike’s signature pink neon dollars or by raising your glass of champagne in appreciation of the hot show-stopping performance.

“Augmented reality is an exciting and innovative way to bring our world-class programming into fans’ homes,” said JP Mallo, VP of Originals Marketing at HBO Max in an official press release. “Finding Magic Mike is a fun and charismatic show, so we saw it as the perfect opportunity to first utilize this AR technology and be creative with Little Cinema. We feel we’ve hit the nail on the head with this one and we can’t wait to see how fans react.”

To bring the Finding Magic Mike AR Experience to life, Little Cinema partnered with the creative studio POWSTER—which has worked on projects for TNT, Amazon Studios, National Geographic, and so many more—to create and design the overall concept. Using volumetric dance footage of the actual dancers strutting their stuff, the team was able to produce high-quality holograms and include fun interactive features.

Getting the Magic Mike dancers and their rock-hard abs into your living room was simple thanks to 8th Wall’s WebAR technology, which allows you access to high-quality AR experiences directly through your web browser; no app downloads required. You can even record your show and share it with your friends as a text message or on social media. Or maybe you just want to keep it as your own private keepsake.

Chris Schuett, COO of Little Cinema, talked about AR’s ability to connect a brand like Magic Mike with fans, saying, “‘Finding Magic Mike is the perfect opportunity to take the themes and heart of a series and reach fans through an interactive and dynamic AR experience,” adding “HBO Max saw our vision and allowed us the access to show talent, choreography, and key assets that make this truly special, and will put you and your friends in the front row at the show. AR allows us to tell a story that is unique to Finding Magic Mike, and with the tools available via 8th Wall and the team at POWSTER, we feel we did just that.”

The Finding Magic Mike AR Experience is available today via findingmagicmike-ar.com. Fans are encouraged to share their special dance on social media using #FindingMagicMike. Finding Magic Mike premieres on HBO Max on December 16th.
