Amazon Lets You “Try On” Shoes Before You Buy Using AR

Virtual Try-On for Shoes currently supports a wide range of popular footwear brands.

This past week, the multinational technology company and eCommerce platform Amazon announced a new interactive shopping experience that allows you to “try on” shoes before you purchase using a mobile device. Virtual Try-On for Shoes uses AR technology to project virtual footwear over your feet in real-time, allowing you to inspect your potential purchase from a multitude of angles just like you would in a physical shoe store.

Getting started is simple. Simply open the official Amazon mobile app on any up-to-date iOS device and select a pair of shoes from the online catalog. Products that are compatible with Virtual Try-On for Shoes will feature a “Virtual Try-On” button on their product page.

Tapping this activates the camera on your mobile device. From here, all you need to do is aim the camera at your feet, at which point a pair of virtual sneaks will automatically appear on your person. You can even change the color and snap a photo of your digital kicks to share with friends and family, just in case you need a second opinion.

At the moment, Virtual Try-On for Shoes supports a healthy variety of popular footwear brands. This includes Adidas, Asics, Lacoste, New Balance, Puma, Reebok, Superga, and Saucony with plans to introduce additional brands and styles in the future.

“Amazon Fashion’s goal is to create innovative experiences that make shopping for fashion online easier and more delightful for customers,” said Muge Erdirik Dogan, President of Amazon Fashion, in an official release. “We’re excited to introduce Virtual Try-On for Shoes, so customers can try on thousands of styles from brands they know and love at their convenience, wherever they are. We look forward to listening and learning from customer feedback as we continue to enhance the experience and expand to more brands and styles.”

“Innovation and elevating consumer experiences are at the core of New Balance. We’re excited to showcase our footwear selection in Amazon Fashion’s Virtual Try-On for Shoes as we continue to look for immersive ways to engage our shared customer base,” added Melissa Worth, Senior Vice President of North America at New Balance.

Virtual Try-On for Shoes is currently available to iOS users in the US and Canada, though the company has confirmed plans for an official Android release in the near future. For more information visit here.
