How you can request a free silicone cover for your Quest 2

Today I want to publish a very easy and short tutorial to let you grab the opportunity of getting a free silicone cover for your Oculus Quest 2. Are you in for that?

Of course, there is also a video version of this tutorial, if you are not a fan of reading…

Why can you get a free silicone cover for your Quest?

For sure you remember that Facebook had a little issue with the materials of the facemasks of its Oculus Quest 2. It seems that during the device production processes, some chemical substances used to remain in the face gasket, and this caused irritations to some people wearing the headset. Facebook has clarified that the amount of these substances in the HMD sponge is below the industry standards and that the irritations regarded a very limited number of people: there have been 5,716 reports of skin irritation (45 of which required medical attention) on a total of over 4.2 million facepads.

EU regulators have anyway found this to be an issue, and so the Quest 2 has been for instance removed from Amazon EU. To cope with this problem, Facebook has improved its production processes to further reduce the presence of these chemicals and has also decided now to ship all the upcoming Quest 2 devices together with a silicone cover. You can put it on the sponge of the facial interface of the headset so that you are sure not to have any kind of skin irritations anymore.

What if you have already bought a Quest in the past? Well, you could be eligible to receive a free silicone cover yourself.

How can you request it?

Someone has received directly an email from Facebook inviting them to get the free cover with a simple button. But in case you haven’t received it (like me) don’t despair. Verifying if you are eligible to get a free Quest 2 silicone cover and order yours is incredibly easy. These are the steps that you have to follow:

  • Head to Oculus website (www.oculus.com)
  • Login with your account
  • On the right corner, there is a little menu. Click on the middle button, the one with the icon of your account
  • In the menu that pops out from the right, select “Devices”
  • You should now see the list of all your Oculus devices. Scroll until you see the line with your Oculus Quest 2
  • Check if there is a label saying “This Quest 2 device qualifies for a free Quest 2 Silicone Cover” and a button with written “Request Silicon Cover”. If there is, then you are eligible to get a free cover. Hurray!
  • Click on the “Request Silicon Cover” and fill the form. Most of the relevant data (e.g. your name, address, etc…) should already been filled because Facebook is always good at knowing your data (cough cough)
  • Click Submit at the end of the form.
  • Done!

After you have submitted your request, you should receive your cover completely for free in 4 weeks. Enjoy it when it arrives 🙂

And that’s it! Today my tutorial was very short and sweet, but I wanted to write it so you can all exploit this interesting possibility. I also want to thank @TheeBeardedBard and VRTrendMagazine for having pointed me to this news! If you get your free cover, follow them to show your appreciation!
