The world of XR is vast, and expanding every day. One way to accelerate your XR smarts is through podcasts. There are many out there, all focused on their own niches. Though we can’t cover all of them in one article, here’s a cross-section of seven podcasts to get you started…

1. The AR Show

Augmented reality is becoming more and more commonplace in everyday life. Smartglasses are a subset of AR that’s seeing more traction now, so if you want to learn more about them then you’ll need to listen to this show.

Along with host and AR glasses expert Jason McDowall, you’ll hear from the experts behind smart glasses and get the inside scoop on the latest technology. That includes episodes on the Oculus Quest Pro and its video passthrough tech, LivingCities and the blending of real and virtual worlds, and much more besides.

2. Voices Of VR

If you’re interested in virtual reality in any way, shape or form, then you need to be listening to Voices of VR. Host and VR thought leader Kent Bye explores how VR can be used in a variety of ways to achieve all sorts of goals, from using VR games to explore the ‘bystander effect’, to creating virtual help desks for the elderly.

The podcast has a large focus on VR and the arts, although there are episodes on other aspects of the tech too. If that sounds like your interest, then you want to make sure that you’re listening to this show.

3. This Week In XR

This Week In XR is designed to give you a full overview of what’s happening right now in the industry, and what you can expect in the near future. Hosted by Professor Charlie Fink and Ted Schilowitz, two experts in tech, they bring you all the latest news.

For example, in recent episodes, they cover the latest CES in Las Vegas, interview various experts in XR, and talk to the creators of the NFL Pro Era VR game.

4. The VR Download

This podcast is rather unique because they eat their own dogfood. In other words, it’s recorded entirely within virtual reality spaces. Once the episodes are recorded, they’re uploaded to YouTube so you can see what the hosts are up to. You can of course download the episodes as audio podcasts, too.

On Mondays, the show covers hardware and industry trends, and on Thursdays, they look at VR games and experiences that you’ll want to check out.

5. Everything VR & AR

Just as the podcast name says, this show covers everything that you want to know about VR and AR. That’s whether you’re an enthusiast, developer, or company in that XR sphere. There are lots of interviews with experts in this field, so you can see just what’s happening right now.

There are also recaps of relevant events, so you’ll hear all about the latest developments. Recently, the show released updates from the Immerse Global Summit with all the live happenings and takeaways from the show.

6. Between Realities

Between Realities is a podcast that’s dedicated to VR in the gaming space. As one of the first industries to really embrace VR, there are lots of exciting developments in the field that they keep you up to date on.

Recent episodes have covered topics such as the Virtual Athletics League, the social features of Meta being cut from the gaming experience, and interviews with experts from within the VR gaming scene. They bring listeners the latest news, so you’ll want to check them out.

7. Field Of View

There are always so many interesting things happening in the XR scene. If you want to know more about what’s happening, you’ll want to listen to this show by Daniel Colaianni and Nicola Rosa. They are both experts in XR, and they bring that expertise to you when they cover the latest news.

They also talk to special guests about what they do, and the projects they’re working on. Recent guests include Matthew Ball, Jeff Anderson, and Louis Rosenberg.
