AMC Debuts VR App With ‘Walking Dead’ Content

AMC has launched a VR app loaded with never-before-seen Walking Dead & Into The Badlands VR content.

AMC Networks is one of the most popular American basic cable and satellite television channels currently in circulation, due in large part to their impressive catalog of groundbreaking original programming. Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Into The Badlands, Better Caul Saul, Mad Men, the list just goes on. So now that the network has nearly conquered the world of television, it appears as though they’re gathering their forces for a full invasion of VR.

Available for download today via your favorite mobile VR headset, AMC VR is an all-new immersive app that allows you to dive deeper into your favorite AMC shows in VR. One Walking Dead-inspired experience puts you in the shoes of an infected human as they transform into a flesh-hungry walker. Another VR adventure inspired by Into The Badlands has you undergo intense Hong Kong-style martial arts training at the shows infamous “Fight Camp.”

More immersive content will be added to the VR app on a regular basis as well as 360° video content timed to specific special events and premieres. In fact, AMC will be releasing an extended 360° bonus scene from the season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead directed by series executive producer and special effects makeup supervisor Greg Nicotero, co-directed by Kevin Cornish and produced by VR studio Moth + Flame. The extended VR scene, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Seth Gilliam, will be made available following the conclusion of The Walking Dead’s 100th episode this Sunday, October 22nd 6pm PT on AMC.

VR experiences currently available on the app include:

The Walking Dead

  • “Attacked Pt. 1: Trapped” – You’re trapped in an abandoned car. Can you last until help arrives?
  • “Attacked Pt. 2: Surrounded” – The walkers are closing in now, and time is running out.
  • “Attacked Pt. 3: Devoured” – Unfortunately, not everyone makes it out alive in this world.
  • “Attacked Pt. 4: Herd” – You’re the walking dead. Join the herd.

Into The Badlands

  • “Virtual Reality Fight Camp: Immerse yourself in training camp as series stars Daniel Wu, Aramis Knight and Ally Ioannides watch themselves practice a choreographed fight.”
  • “Tilda on the Wire: Daniel Wu (Sunny) teaches Ally Ioannides (Tilda) how to use a dead body to her advantage for a Season 2 scene of “Into the Badlands.””

“With the launch of AMC VR, we are pleased to bring shows like ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Into the Badlands’ to life in an immersive and experiential way,” said Mac McKean, EVP of Innovation and Product Development for AMC and SundanceTV. “Viewers want to enter the worlds they watch on AMC, and this app brings them there.”

On top of all these incredible 360° video experiences, the AMC VR app also features a custom screening room allowing you to check out the newest AMC trailers, behind-the-scenes video, as well as other additional bonus content from the comfort of their own private theatre. Right now you can check out the season 8 trailer for The Walking Dead, some interesting footage covering the production of Into the Badlands season 2 and even a clip from Ride With Norman Reedus.

For all this sweet VR goodness download the AMC VR app now on iOS, Android, Gear VR or Google Daydream. Expect more content from original AMC shows in the near future, whether it be from existing hits like The Walking Dead, or upcoming programs like The Terror.
