It is that time of the year when I make predictions about the upcoming Oculus/Facebook/Meta Connect, the main event of the year for Oculus/Facebook/Meta since a lot of time. But not any kind of announcements, because we already know that the budget cuts pushed the launch of AR glasses to something like 2026.

A few weeks after I officially entered VR, the technology started being overhyped after Facebook’s acquisition of Oculus. If you follow the story described above, you can see that the hype for VR in 2014 was caused by Facebook buying Oculus. After the year 2026, we will be just one of the many that do XR, a commodity technology.

It is not the first time Meta partnered with an external company for a new device and in most cases this choice paid off: both the Gear VR (Samsung) and the Oculus Go (Xiaomi) were pretty good products. Given the production timeline, this Vision Pro successor could launch in the first half of 2026.
