Impact Reality, the VR publishing and marketing firm, announced it’s formed a studio dedicated to porting flatscreen games to VR.

Called Flat2VR Studios, the venture is aimed at merging traditional video games with immersive VR experiences, and is said to engage leading developers from the VR modding scene to create officially licensed VR adaptations of popular flatscreen games.

“The Flat2VR community has proven there is a tremendous appetite to experience cherished games in an entirely new way with virtual reality,” said Elliott Tate, partner at Impact Reality and founder of the Flat2VR community. “With Flat2VR Studios, we’re thrilled to work directly with the best developers to create official, high-quality VR versions of hit titles, available directly on VR storefronts such as Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2, and Steam.”

Flat2VR Studios has also partnered with Team Beef, known for bringing retroactive VR support for games such as Doom, Doom 3, Quake 3, the original Half-Life, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Lead by Tate, the studio includes VR porting veterans ‘Cabalistic’ and ‘Raicuparta’, renowned for their VR adaptations of games like Half-Life 2 and Outer Wilds respectively.

The studio is currently working on an official VR port of a still undisclosed game, which is slated to release in late 2024 or early 2025 on major VR platforms.

This would be very neat. Nothing against mods etc. but I prefer the ease of use with official ports.

  • If “Return to Castle Wolfenstein” turns up in the Quest Shoppe,
I’m cutting the line to get my copy!! lol

Flat2VR still believe there is a demand for their services lol. UEVR was a massive flop. They don’t announce any upcoming titles, which leads me to believe they don’t have anything secured either, they just officially started a company to appear more serious and legitimate. So whatever developer comes to them, of they are fairly priced, they will port anything just to stay afloat.

It’s not like these people even know how to make a good VR game – they just taped controllers to the mouse, maybe enabled some extra hacks, render in stereo same voila, vr game ready for them.

The propaganda and cult of flat2vr are so strong, even the show runner believed in it. Will be interesting seeing how fast it will crash down. Hopefully such event would be covered by news article. Obviously everyone will cheer them now – and nobody will care if they haven’t done anything by the next year.

    • Interesting take …
Let’s see what transpires first before we count them out.

      Hey ViRGIN !

      “UEVR was a massive flop”

Wut ? It’s not a commercial product, how can it “flop” ? It’s doing pretty much all Praydog aimed for, and is indeed transforming many flat titles in great VR experiences. Gylt was awesome. The discord has thousands of members using it and sharing profiles… what makes it a flop ?

“They don’t announce any upcoming titles, which leads me to believe they don’t have anything secured either”
Maybe not. They said during the stream that they had one title already in the work, but wether it’s a solid deal or not is another question.

“It’s not like these people even know how to make a good VR game – they just taped controllers to the mouse, maybe enabled some extra hacks, render in stereo same voila, vr game ready for them.”

I’m pretty sure Eliotate worked on Zenith, the VR MMORPG. And their mods often do much more than what you describe.

There is no cult or propaganda. Flat2VR is just a modding community, but it DOES provide some of the best VR experiences available.
Nobody is having dellusion of grandeur. They saw a possibility for more quality VR games : porting more flat games to VR. They are trying to move in that direction. Finger crossed, this will bring some good games to VR.

And even to quest ! Do you also spit on DrBeef’s ports ?

      • ViRGiN

        > what makes it a flop ?
What makes it that it is not? The over year long+ hype was infinietly more stronger, from people who never even had chance to use it, compared to post-release. Even YouTubers (cringe i know) who were making early access videos, now are coming out again saying they barely use it if at all nowadays, there is too much friction getting it work, and when it works, it’s not even that fun.

Do you think Google Daydream was a flop? It had thousands of interested people in the platform.

        > They said during the stream that they had one title already
It could be anything, from GTA 5 to random indie Pizza Parlol Simulator. They could also just be talking to appear like they are already getting business, making it less of a risk to contract them.

        > I’m pretty sure Eliotate worked on Zenith, the VR MMORPG
Are you pretty sure, or he did work on it? Regardless, Zenith is also flopping hard and you can’t deny that, the devs spoke about it themselves. They are putting more money into the game than the game is putting out.

        > There is no cult or propaganda. Flat2VR is just a modding community, but it DOES provide some of the best VR experiences available.
You must have been visiting different parts of the internet.
Maybe check out comment sections of videos that are not glorifying UEVR?

        > Finger crossed,
Had enough of crossed fingers already since 2016.

        > And their mods often do much more than what you describe.
Like what? Disabling skeletal mesh so your virtual body doesn’t render? That’s not impressive enough for VR. Maybe you are a fan of one handed shotgun with automatic reloads?

        > Do you also spit on DrBeef’s ports ?
No, he does godlike work. Tailored solutions, tailored products. UEVR tries “to do it all” while constrained to one engine. You should never ignore what VorpX has achieved even before consumer headsets have released. And VorpX actually supports dozens of titles that pretty much any random person would agree they would love to play in VR. WIth UEVR, it’s the massive amount of crappy UE games that can be now rendered in VR, but very few people actually really desired playing these games.

I talk a lot of sense. I’ve got a cult status around here. Worship me, and let me drink those salty tears.

I also have an inverted wee-wee, please don’t tell anyone.

            This is getting weird …

    • david vincent

UEVR is a huge technical success, what are you smoking ?

    • VR5

How was UEVR a massive flop? It still is in beta and I already played and completed two games with it. Would be three if HoL didn’t crash all the time. I also bought several new games thanks to it.

UEVR has saved flat gaming (from being flat). Not a lot of flat games I can tolerate playing without VR.

    • Gabe Zuckerwell

      I’m full of it today, aren’t I…?

And yes, I am a ViRGiN with a women’s rude area on my forehead, and my diatribe is about as unbiased as this post is mature…

    • Brian Elliott Tate

UEVR has millions of downloads and is heavily used every day. What we launched so far is only the beta version though and was purposely made a bit more for people wanting to test it, give feedback, etc. When the 1.0 launch comes, profiles will auto download and make it just a “one button click” for most games.

We do have two games that have already been in the works and have quite a few studios that we’re talking with. Don’t worry, we’re highly selective of what games we port and whether they’ll make a great fit for VR!

      • Gabe Zuckerwell

Millions of downloads would put you higher than 7 year old behemoths like pavlov, so please, stop. Millions of downloads, and there most viewed YouTube video from the past month sits at 19k views?
Who are you trying to fool?

Next year you’ll have billion users.

        • Brian Elliott Tate

If you’re curious, you can check some download numbers on Github and Sidequest, etc. For example, Doom3Quest has been downloaded 414.2k on Sidequest and 319,668 through Github.

  • STL

Morrowind and Oblivion would be very nice with an official VR port.

    • Garhert

What about Risen? Or could they help Alkimia Interactive and release the Gothic Remake in VR?

  • Nothing to see here

It would be great if they could not modify the control scheme much or at all. Games designed for game controllers should continue to work with game controllers in VR. If they want to VR controller support as well, that’s all good, but please keep the original control scheme working as the original developers intended.

  • david vincent

Good job RoadToVR, I thought you were going to miss this news like you missed the release of UEVR.

  • ViRGiN

Good Pizza, Great Pizza indie game HERE WE GOOOO

    • GordonFreeman

I think you have written on the wrong thread, try searching Dominos.

I play just as many old and new titles, so old games with a VR spin would breath new life into them.
