Google is joining the wearable business.

After creating the Wear OS framework for other smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch, Google is finally making its own watch: The Pixel Watch. Clever name, right? Anyway, Google's new wearable was officially unveiled at Google I/O 2022 with a launch date of this fall.

Rick Osterloh, Google's SVP of devices and services, shared a sneak peek of the upcoming Pixel Watch's features. It has a circular watch face, a "tactile crown," a stainless steel body, and offers users customizable bands.

Built with Google's Tensor chip, the Pixel Watch is "built inside and out by Google," said Osterloh. The smartwatch will give owners access to Google Maps (without the need for a smartphone), the newly announced Google Wallet for easy digital payments, plus offer integration with the Google Smart Home app. It is also fully integrated with Fitbit, which will allow owners to check heart rate, track sleep, stats, progress, fitness goals, and more on the smart watch.

More details are still to come but for now, look out for the Pixel Watch to launch alongside the Pixel 7 sometime this fall.
