This Tuesday, global smart glasses firm Nreal debuted a new iPhone-compatible dongle to coincide with the launch of Apple’s iPhone 14 earlier this month. Additionally, Nreal is updating its Nebula operating system (OS) to improve cross-compatibility with Apple devices on its Air and Light smart glasses.

The Beijing-based firm has opened preorders for the Apple dongle on Amazon for $59, and the firm also announced a partnership with the online retail giant to launch the Nreal Air device for $379. Both products are available on Amazon Prime exclusively for US customers.

UK customers can buy the Nreal Air device from region partners EE for £399.99.

Nreal designed the Air product as an immersive streaming device, where the user connects their smartphone to view live and recorded media on virtual screens up to 102 inches in size.

Nreal Air has various immersive components like a 46-degree field of view, 90Hz refresh rate, and integrated 5G connectivity to secure high-quality immersive media streaming.

The firm showed off its immersive media viewing hardware with significant broadcasting partnerships, including Orange, the DFL, and BTSports to bring AR visuals to the men’s and women’s Tour De France 2022, the Supercup, and the Premier league.

iPhone Compatibility

Nreal’s Apple Adaptor comes just as the Chinese firm debuted iOS compatibility for its product portfolio, including the recently announced iPhone 14 and 14 Pro – turning an Apple iPhone into an augmented reality (AR) navigation accessory.

With other features coming soon, Apple iPhone users can only use their devices for screen mirroring. The current integration enables Apple iPhone users to watch content from streaming services and video-based social media platforms like TikTok on large AR screens.

In addition to the Nreal Apple adapter’s debut, it is also introducing macOS integration by updating its Nebula OS to support MacBook Pros and MacBook Air models, powered by Apple M1 chips.

Nebula uses a new AR Desktop tool that projects a tethered Macbook device onto a virtual external monitor. Nreal operators can connect their smart glasses to a Macbook using the upcoming Apple adaptor to enhance a workstation using a minimal mobile kit.

Peng Jin, Co-Founder of Nreal, said that AR display technology is likely to be the first immersive solution to alter people’s lives significantly. He also noted that Nreal’s design philosophy of aesthetics, display quality, and interoperability would assist the enterprise in being the leading immersive firm.
