Apple AirPods 2 — $89, was $129

Apple AirPods 2 - Charging Case - In-ear Headphones
Apple

Apple has long been known for making premium tech products that please the eye aesthetically and produce a simple yet impactful user experience. This is true of the Apple AirPods 2, which, despite being a few years removed from their original release, still hold up as a great set of wireless earbuds. Just like their newer iteration, the Apple AirPods 3, the AirPods 2 produce high quality audio that pack a punch whether you’re playing games, listening to music, watching movies, or relaxing with a podcast. It has an H1 chip that delivers a stable wireless connection, and manages to produce high-quality sound far better than many other wireless headphones. Battery life is about as good as it gets, with the AirPods 2 offering up to five hours of listening time on one charge, and more than 24 hours with the included charging case.

Sony WH-CH720N — $98, was $150

Sony WH-CH720N Noise Canceling Headphones on the ground
Sony

The Sony CH720N are good-quality headphones for a relatively budget price, with the audio being dependable but nothing exciting or comparable to the higher-end Sony XM4s, for example. That’s ok since they aren’t meant to compete at that level, and given the price you’re paying, they’re relatively comfortable to wear, have good audio, and you can get about 35 hours of total use per charge with ANC switched on.

JBL Live 660 NC — $150, was $200

JBL

JBL is known for its great audio, and since it was taken over by Samsung, it has continued that excellent tradition with the JBL Live 660 NC headphones. They have surprisingly good audio for how much they cost, with solid mid-performance and a clear soundstage, but more interestingly, they have really great noise canceling that comes with an ambient noise boost mode so you can stay aware of your surroundings. It also comes with a solid app that has an EQ that lets you adjust the levels if you don’t like the sound out of the box, while the whopping 40 hours or so of battery life should easily last you a couple of days or more.

Beats Solo 3 — $150, was $200

Beats

The Beats Solo 3 headphones are a great all-purpose set of headphones. They produce high quality audio and up to 40 hours of battery life, so you’ll rarely have to think about whether you have enough charge to watch that movie or power through that work session. They’re compatible with iOS and Android devices, as well as any other device that connects via Bluetooth, including home theater setups and computers. They pair easily with most devices and charge easily via micro-USB connection. With quality audio and a popular design, the Beats Solo 3 headphones make sense for just about anybody.

Google Pixel Buds Pro — $168, was $217

Google’s wireless noise-canceling earbuds are something to consider if you’re looking for something that can compete with the best wireless earbuds but don’t want to break the bank. They produce high quality audio with big sound whether you’re watching movies or listening to music. They pair easily with any Bluetooth device and can get up to 11 hours of listening time out of a single battery charge. With the included case you’ll have up to 31 hours of battery life.

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II — $199, was $279

Bose

While the Apple AirPods Pro 2 are a popular choice for in-ear headphones, Bose is one of the premier names in audio and the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II are some of the best wireless earbuds on the market. They have great noise-cancellation capability as earbuds go, which makes getting your work done at the office a less distracting endeavor, and which makes taking in movies on your laptop or home theater a more immersive experience. They also have a feature that’s called Aware Mode, which allows you to hear both your music and your surroundings at the same time. This makes them a safe option for daily commuters, fitness nuts, and bicyclists as well.

Beats Studio Pro — $250, was $350

The Beats Studio Pro headphones offer all of the audio quality and cool factor that comes with other headphones by the popular brand. They have top features like Spatial Audio for immersion while watching movies and other content, but they also offer some practical things like up to 40 hours of battery life on a single charge. These headphones are on the larger end, so they may not be ideal for wearing for afternoon walks, but they offer great privacy with Active Noise Cancelation and will serve well if you want some privacy around the home or office.

Sennheiser RS 195 — $260, was $400

Sennheiser RsRange
Sennheiser

Sennheiser is often recognized as one of the best names in the audio business. The RS 195 wireless headphones make a great option if you like to kick back with movies, as they have bass boost and built-in surround sound modes. They’re wireless, so you can get comfortable in your recliner or couch with them, or you can simply throw them in a backpack and have them ready for action whenever you feel like listening to some music or watching some digital content throughout the day.

Sony WH-1000XM5 — $328, was $400

Sony / Sony

The Sony WH-1000XM5 are some of the best headphones on the market. They have active noise cancellation that’s about as good as it gets, and which makes them a great set of headphones for general consumers and professionals alike. They’re able to make hands-free calls and have speak-to-chat capability, and battery life is an impressive 30 hours on a single charge. This also makes them a great option for road trips, travelers, and anyone who spends the day doing their work at a computer.

Apple AirPods Max — $500, was $549

Riley Young/Digital Trends / Riley Young/Digital Trends

The Apple AirPods Max is a pair of headphones that don’t really need an introduction, given that they are some of the best headphones on the market and the best Apple-compatible headphones when you include Apple’s Beats brand. They have excellent active noise cancellation, on par with the XM5s, and the same sort of audio quality and capabilities, including things like spatial audio, which admittedly is better for watching movies than listening to music. Even so, if you’re looking for the best Apple has to offer in terms of audio, the AirPods Max is the way to go.
