The glitch-electronica pioneers turn their latest album into a psychedelic immersive experience with the help of TheWaveVR.
Since first emerging back in 2006, American electronic group The Glitch Mob have gone on to become one of the most influential musical acts of the last decade. The creative trio of skilled music producers have developed a striking sound completely unique to that of any other electronic artist, a tough feat in a genre infamous for reusing pre-existing samples and similar song structures.
For their latest album release, See Without Eyes, the group looks to bring their same, one-of-a-kind style to the visual spectrum in the form of a brand new VR experience for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
Available free this Thursday, June 21, See Without Eyes will take you on an intergalactic acid trip through a psychedelic visualization of the new record – all accompanied by a 20 minute custom mix of the album. The Glitch Mob partnered with art director David Wexler of Strangeloop to incorporate original visuals based on the sounds of their third and latest studio endeavor. The mind-bending experience will be available on the TheWaveVR social music festival platform, which will allow virtual attendees to actually interact with the experience itself, as well as each other.
“TheWaveVR and Strangeloop Studios have masterfully crafted a new dimension to the album, and we’re beyond excited for people to take the ride,” spoke The Glitch Mob. “‘See Without Eyes VR’ is an entirely new way to experience the music—as a full-body immersive journey.”
“This show expands upon what we’ve learned from doing several others, but goes much deeper into environmental storytelling and interactive design,” says Adam Arrigo, TheWaveVR CEO and co-founder. “Part film, part concert and part art installation, the show explores themes fundamental to immersive technology, such as the relationship between isolation and social interaction in the digital world. It’s far and away our most ambitious endeavor to date.”
See Without Eyes will premiere live on TheWaveVR Thursday, June 21st at 7:00 PST, after which point it will be available for download free via the Oculus Store and Steam.
The Glitch Mob’s latest album, See Without Eyes, released May 4th where it remained #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart for two consecutive weeks, making it the groups most successful studio album to date. The group as a long history of blending cutting-edge technology with their music, even going so far to develop a custom stage setup that combined the three musicians into one instrument, known as ‘The Blade 2.0.’
TheWaveVR has also seen recent success having just closed a $6 million Series A funding round as well as a major collaboration with Warner Bros. Studios as part of the Ready Player One theatrical release.
This partnership with The Glitch Mob only further cements TheWaveVR’s reputation as one of the most influential music-based VR apps currently available.
