Mirra 3D Design Tool Makes Creating For VR & AR A Breeze

Mirra aims to remove the need for coding when creating immersive content.

Immersive entertainment is responsible for some of the most impressive technological advancements of the last couple of years. And while all of these various breakthroughs and advancements seem to be happening more often, that still doesn’t make them any easier to achieve. It takes quite a bit of knowledge and skill to develop programs and experiences for VR, AR and MR, making it an intimidating field to anyone even remotely interested in dipping their toes into their digital waters.

That’s where Mirra comes in. Available now as an open beta, the 3D design and content creation platform allows anyone, from skilled developers to absolute beginners, to design and build their own personal immersive experiences in the same timespan as it would to whip up a basic powerpoint presentation.

You can upload images, videos, audio, 360° video, 360° pictures and even 3D models to the programs library where they’re instantly optimized for the digital environment. It’s then just a simple case of dragging and dropping the media to the desired locations around the virtual, augmented or mixed environment and it’s ready for publishing in the cloud. From there you can view the experience via your platform of choice, whether that be a HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or a multitude of other options.

“We believe it’s the future of 3D content creation and publishing because we make it dead simple for anyone to create in this next frontier,” stated Kevin Farnham, founder of Mirra. “We think that it’s similar to what Squarespace did to make publishing new, beautiful websites simple or what Photoshop did to make graphic design easier.”

What’s most exciting about a development tool this easy to use is its potential to attract a whole new market previously intimidated by the complexity of the still-emerging technology.

From a history teacher looking for a quick way to create an AR dinosaur bone scavenger hunt for his class, a real estate agent attempting to bring their website to life with a VR home gallery, to a marketer blowing away their client with a mixed reality promotional campaign of their product. All of these experiences would normally involve lengthy and expensive content development processes. Now, thanks to Mirra, these same individuals are capable of designing content themselves, all without having to write a single line of code.

“We think that people will use Mirra for a wide array of purposes: presentations, product tours, sales tools, training, portfolios, location tours, brand marketing experiences, promotional experiences, educational content, galleries, immersive experience prototyping, and more,” added Farnham.

You can head over to Mirra right now to check out the beta and get started developing your own immersive project straight from your browser.
