Stop What You’re Doing And Play ‘Gorilla Tag’ On Oculus Quest & SteamVR

Use your incredible gorilla strength to parkour up trees and cliffs in this low-fi game of tag.

Available now on Oculus Quest/Quest 2 and SteamVR headsets, Gorilla Tag combines fast-paced parkour climbing with unique locomotion mechanics to offer a hilariously entertaining PvP multiplayer experience that will have you screaming “OH OH AHAHAH!” at the top of your lungs as you chase down other gorilla players through a low-fi jungle playground.

Don’t let the simple visuals and barebones gameplay fool you, Gorilla Tag is easily one of the more engaging PvP multiplayer games available at the moment, due in large part to its unique locomotion mechanics. Rather than relying upon artificial movements such as teleportation or free locomotion, players instead use their hands and arms to push, grab, and thrust themselves throughout the environment using their incredible gorilla strength. Propelling yourself into the air and bouncing off objects to access difficult-to-reach areas feels incredibly satisfying in VR.

Once you’ve gotten a handle on the controls, you can visit the control module located in the tree cavity to access online multiplayer and go head-to-head with other gorillas in fast-paced games of tag (up to three players) and infection (four or more). Each match begins as a standard game of tag, with one player being designated as “it” while the others try to avoid being touched. Thankfully, the map is filled with various obstacles to assist in your escape, from towering trees and platforms to vertigo-inducing cliffs and even a treehouse.

As the match progresses and more players become infected the experience quickly turns from a casual game of hide-and-seek to an adrenaline-pumping escape run. I can’t even begin to describe to you how fun it is to be the last-gorilla-standing and facing down a monstrous wave of infected players screaming like apes at the top of their lungs. It’s an experience that’s as horrifying as it is hilarious; the perfect combination in my opinion. Of course, you can always set up a private room to monkey around with friends.
