A self directed lesson through Eon Reality’s EON-XR Platform – An influenza pandemic is an epidemic of an influenza virus that spreads on a worldwide scale and infects a large proportion of the world population. In contrast to the regular seasonal epidemics of influenza, these pandemics occur irregularly. There have been five influenza pandemics during the last 140 years, with the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic being the worst; this pandemic is estimated to have been responsible for the deaths of 50–100 million people. The most recent, the 2009 swine flu pandemic, resulted in under a million deaths and is considered relatively mild.
