F8 2018: Oculus Go Standalone VR Headset Now On Sale For $199

As expected, Facebook launched its first standalone VR headset, Oculus Go, at its F8 developer conference in San Jose, today.

Go can now be ordered around the web for $199 and is also available at retails such as Best Buy. With many other VR headsets, $199 would only be one part of the total cost, but Go’s all-in-one design means there’s no other hardware needed to get started. Everything you need is already built into the headset, aside from a motion controller that comes bundled inside the box.

The device is essentially a Gear VR without the smartphone, then. Its content library consists of the same games and apps as Gear and the two are binary compatible, meaning any developer working on Gear content can release on Go too.

Go was revealed at last year’s Oculus Connect conference as part of Facebook’s plan to get one billion people into VR.
