Amazon’s Prime Video VR App Launches On Oculus Quest, Go, And Gear VR

Enjoy the entire Prime Video catalog and a curated selection of 360-degree content.

When it comes to video streaming on the Oculus platform, there’s no shortage of apps to choose from. From Netflix and Hulu to Showtime and Red Bull, you can’t seem to throw a rock without hitting a dedicated video streaming app. Then there’s Oculus TV, which allows you to connect all your subscriptions into a single hub for an all-in-one channel surfing experience.

Today, this generous selection of media streaming options grows even bigger with the arrival of Prime Video VR, a new app that brings the entirety of Amazon Prime’s massive film and television library to VR headsets.

Beginning today, users on the Oculus Quest, Oculus Go, and Samsung Gear VR can download the Prime Video VR app off of their respective stores and sign in to their Prime accounts, at which point they’ll then have access to the Prime video library, including any subscriptions tied to their account (HBO, Starz, Showtime, etc).

Not only that, but there’s also a selection of 360-degree content to enjoy, including Baobab Studios’ ASTEROIDS! and INVASION!, as well as Kaleidoscope and RYOT’s Vestige, the Frontline PBS documentary Return to Chernobyl, and several other accomplished 360-degree pieces. Those without a paid Prime membership can still access any content they have purchased through Amazon.com.

Upon activating the app, users are transported to a brightly-colored cardboard city where they can browse through available content via an easy-to-navigate menu. For an even more convenient experience, users can try the voice-powered search which allows them to browse the catalog using only voice commands. Once the desired content has been selected, the user is transported to a bare-bones movie theater environment where they can then adjust screen size and position for maximum comfort.
