Windows Store Is Getting Superhot, Rec Room, Arizona Sunshine and More

Some of the biggest and best games in VR are on their way to Microsoft’s new Windows 10 headsets.

We already knew some of the company’s best known IP like Halo and Minecraft were coming to Microsoft’s Mixed Reality platform, but Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine, Against Gravity’s Rec Room, and Superhot VR are all on the way too. They’ll support new VR headsets made by partners like Dell, Acer, and HP. Microsoft confirmed as much as part of an information blow out today; the image above represents just the first wave of content that will be coming to the devices in the near future.

These are some of the biggest titles in VR gaming so far; Arizona Sunshine won our Game of the Year 2016 award and has gone on the generating over $1 million in revenue. Superhot VR, meanwhile, was critically acclaimed, as is Rec Room’s social VR experience.

Though you can largely expect these titles to look and play the same as they did on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PSVR, here you’ll be able to play them using each headset’s inside-out positional tracking which uses sensors on the device to locate your position in a virtual world. Presumably, each will also be using the new six degrees of freedom (6DOF) motion controllers that Microsoft revealed earlier this year. We’ll be eager to see if Microsoft’s tracking tech provides just as solid an experience as on existing platforms.

Looking at the list above, there’s far more gaming content to be excited for in the mix too. Snail Games’ Ark Park, Coatsink’s Esper, Schell Games’ I Expect You To Die and I-Illusions’ Space Pirate Trainer are just a few of the names that every VR fan will recognize on this list. Then there’s a slew of non-gaming apps and companies, like VR animation team Baobab Studios, 360 video giants like Jaunt and NextVR, and experiential platforms like Wevr’s content.

It’s a good start to the Windows 10 VR platform and we also know that SteamVR support is coming, potentially adding hundreds more apps to the list with a click of a finger.
