News: Magic Leap Recruits Square Slice Studios to Create Content for Magic Leap One

In keeping with its focus on loading the Magic Leap One with content at launch, Magic Leap has inked a creative partnership agreement with augmented reality production studio Square Slice Studios.

"The team at Square Slice Studios has a reputation for forward thinking and innovative creation," said Andy Lanning, executive creative director at Magic Leap in a statement. "Their vision for the future aligns so much with ours that there will undoubtedly be a creative chemistry that helps usher in the next wave of dynamic and engaging content."

Square Slice was co-founded by comic book veteran Grant Morrison, whose credits include games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum and the SyFy Channel series Happy! (which also has its own AR app). The company endeavors to apply augmented reality to storytelling.

Although the SyFy show's effects were delivered by a different production studio (AvisVFX), the show nevertheless showcases Morrison's knack for creating narratives that combine live action actors with virtual characters.

"Storytelling is my passion and I've found that new platforms allow me to extend my creative boundaries," said Morrison. "We see Magic Leap as the next great platform for storytelling and we are excited to collaborate on content that helps bring our wildest dreams to life in the near future."

The forthcoming AR headset is shaping up to be a haven for comic book fans. Magic Leap has already reached a partnership with Madefire to adapt its motion comics format for the Magic Leap One, and Lucasfilm is adapting content for the device as well.

Magic Leap has previously announced content from the NBA, Sigur Rós's Tónandi, Weta Workshop, and Framestore, among others.

By all accounts, we won't have to wait too much longer to see what all this content look like in AR.
