Oculus And Here Be Dragons Debut VR Miniseries Dispatch

Oculus may have closed down its filmmaking division earlier in the year, but it’s still working with other creators to produce interesting VR experiences. Dispatch is an example of that.

This new VR miniseries, created by Here Be Dragons, made its debut at the Venice Film Festival in Italy yesterday. Written and directed by Edward Robels, who has worked on other VR projects like Clouds Over Sidra and The Protectors, the series spotlights a police dispatcher in a small town that finds himself up against an overwhelming crime spree.

Ted, played by Martin Starr (Silicon Valley), finds himself in an impossible situation when he’s the only one that can help a victim of the madness. We don’t know much else about the series right now though, in a prepared statement, Robles said the series was designed to be “as dramatic and entertaining as possible”, giving viewers a rare insight into the lives of first responders. Expect something gripping and tough, then. No release date for the series has been given so far.

The news comes just a few weeks after Here Be Dragons announced that it had raised some $10 million in investment. Expect to see plenty more projects come from the studio in the near future.
