CES 2018: HTC Announces Official Wireless Vive Add-On With Intel

It was almost a year ago to the day that we reported that HTC was working with Intel to create an official wireless add-on for its Vive VR headset. Today, the pair officially announced the Vive Wireless Adapter.

The adapter is set to work with both the original Vive and the newly-announced Vive Pro. It allows users to cut the chord between headset and PC, instead wirelessly communicating with your device and is coming this summer. It uses an interference-free 60Ghz band to reduce latency.

We went hands-on with a prototype version of this system back at VR this year and came away hugely impressed with the results. It remains to be seen if the experience has improved since then.

Previously, HTC worked with TPCast to introduce a third-party wireless adapter under its Vive X initiative, but this is the first official add-on we’ve seen of this type for any major PC or console-based headset.
