If you’re thinking of pulling the trigger on finally getting a VR system, there’s no better time than now to basically get any headset currently on the market at a discounted price. Check out the deals we’ve found, all of which are valid during the weekend between Black Friday and Cyber Monday (until supplies last).

Baseline Prices

VR headsets have already seen some pretty drastic permanent price reductions in the past few months, including the new $400 Oculus Rift + Touch price, the new $600 HTC Vive price, and the new $450 ‘all-in’ PlayStation VR bundle. Microsoft’s Windows VR headsets also have a consumer-friendly pricing too, selling normally between $400-$500.

Of course, you’ll need the computing hardware to run your chosen flavor of VR headset though; before discounts, a VR-ready PC could cost anywhere from $700-$1000, and a PlayStation 4 Slim console at around $300. For this weekend only, all of that is changing.

I could never buy a Vive hmd if they continue with this price politic. price is almost close to the double of the Oculus (and they about the same more or less). :(

  • Rift is £350 on Amazon UK too. Thats a good deal as you get touch controllers over the Vive and add an extra sensor (third) for improved room scale for an extra £58

Golden Age of VR will start when OCULUS GO will release at $200.

What i strongly wish actually is at some point in very near future oculus will also offer 6DOF tracking (Positional Tracking) & Fully tracked controllers too at price $200.

Specially an old news here “3D-printed dodecahedron decorated with binary square markers, the so-called ‘DodecaPen’ achieves submillimeter-accurate 6DoF tracking” made me believe its achievable.

From that point real “VR mass adoption” age will begin….. till then wait for this VR Miracle with fingers crossed…at $200 with all in one with Good Optics 110Degree FoV and all Gear VR titles viable with Compelling interactive VR Home. You have all secret ingredients right in place.

    • Sponge Bob

      Dude,

do you realize that Oculus GO does not have camera(s) and even if it had camera the standalone GPU power is absolutely inadequate to run inside-out 6DoF HMD tracking or even a 6DoF-controller tracking like that 3D-printed dodecahedron
read the paper dude – it states the limitations right there
it student R&D project nothing more

      • Darshan

True you are .. it does not have camera or cameras (For Now) which can be added in next iterations. (not so difficult)

“standalone GPU power is absolutely inadequate to run inside-out 6DoF HMD tracking or even a 6DoF-controller tracking”
is misconception as oculus’s own santa cruz prototype is standalone and it do have 6DoF tracking and inside-out.
        https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/12/16463844/oculus-santa-cruz-standalone-headset-prototype-hands-on

Wasn’t Oculus Begin with home schooled guy who tinkered with things in his father’s garage workshop?

        • Andrew Jakobs

Santa cruz is a completely different project compared to the GO. GO is gearvr level, cruz is more rift like.

          • Sponge Bob

santa cruz is a whole powerful computer attached to your head
not available even to developers any time soon
meaning it will change drastically when/if its finally released as a consumer product

        • Sponge Bob

VR existed long before Palmer Lucky
The only thing the guy should be credited for (and he was to the tune of 700mil) is that he figurted out that VR can be done cheaply by using existing phone/tablet screens and cheap lenses doing much of the required distortion in software (for which he didnl;t have skill to write it so used Carmack’s help with the lawsuit resulting…

    • Andrew Jakobs

The GO is really just a useless Headset, you’re better off with some Chinese android headset..

      • Darshan

Let it release, isn’t it too quick to judge? May be you think what more it offer over what is already available with gear vr?My answer is cost of ownership consider gear vr+S8/S7 $700/800 now what if all same quality VR you get at $200 that include all in not required phone or shell anything extra.. its big deal if it does what gear vr +S8/S7 do at 1/5th price.

        • Rogue Transfer

Watch the recent John Carmack’s Oculus Connect 4 video to developers about Oculus Go & Santa Cruz – he advises them to aim for around Note 4 performance.

Oculus Go is not going to be anywhere near a $700/800 S8/S7 for $200.

    • Rogue Transfer

      >What i strongly wish actually is at some point in very near future
oculus will also offer 6DOF tracking (Positional Tracking) & Fully
tracked controllers too at price $200.

Interestingly, Oculus also explained that currently they are trying the Oculus Go first to see if 3DOF is sufficient to gain VR market share.

They said, that if Oculus Go does well, then they’ll focus on that instead of launching more 6DOF devices. If on the other hand, people don’t buy Oculus Go, then Oculus said they will drop 3DOF and concentrate on 6DOF devices.

    • yag

VR mass adoption won’t be soon., we need to get rid of these googles first

      • impurekind

Then you will literally be dead before VR is ever mass adoption in the way you imagine it–and it might not ever even be possible to to it without some kind of glasses or display in front of you eyes. Personally, I know VR will be at some level of mass adoption in the actual real world, at least that of something like videogame consoles for sure, and probably not too many years into the future (maybe one or two decades at absolute max imo).

    • impurekind

“Golden Age of VR will start when OCULUS GO will release at $200.”

Not if you think 6DoF on the controllers is just as important as 6Dof on the headsets is, or if you want to play some of the more high-end VR games that are available right now (which won’t run on the Go).

Yeah, the prices is great but it comes with a couple of sacrifices in some important areas.

  • Miqa

“The Best VR Hardware Has Never Been Cheaper Than Right Now” this I pretty much true for any point in time (with the exception of right after a sale).

Considering how many other sale articles that have been posted, is this one really necessary?

    • benz145

Not necessarily since the current deals will be gone once Black Friday is over. Even so, sometimes worth pointing out how affordable it’s all become for people who may have initially said ‘VR isn’t for me’ at the prices they saw 12 months ago.

  • bud

soon… if it doesn’t have 200 deg FOV it will be an iPhone 4….

Pimax Rescue us in Feb please!

  • impurekind

So, Oculus Rift is the best deal based on how much stuff you get for your money. And I’d argue it’s probably the best all-round VR experience out there at the current time too.

    • VRMeisterHobbit

Odyssey is the best hardware right now – highest eye resolution, inside-out tracking so no lighthouses or cameras, and everything just works like butter when you plug it in. It is also comparably priced to Rift, but it also has access with SteamBridge to the entire SteamVR Vive library too.

      • The Odyssey appears to be great and many will prefer it but I would not go as far as say it is the best hardware right now. It has a higher resolution but thats all I would say is better. inside-out tracking has flaws too, can only see hands when in foreground range of the sensors which is a step backwards to what people already have with Rift/Vive, they need to solve that to make it better. The Rift has touch controllers which many praise as the best you can get. The Rift has native Steam and Oculus Store support which is the largest of all the headsets out there. The Rift is currently cheaper and also available in Europe. So there are pro’s and cons to each.
