Oculus Rift goes cross-platform with Samsung Gear VR

It would appear that though the two platforms have their major differences, Oculus Rift will be going cross-platform with Samsung Gear VR. This means that mobile devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 5 will be able to see games like "Anshar Wars 2", a game that Oculus Rift players can also play, with all devices in multiplayer playing at the same time. This is the first game that will also be a cross-buy – purchase on one platform and you don't have to pay for it again on the other.

What better way for both Samsung and Oculus to say, "you really, really should upgrade to an Oculus Rift when you've decided the GearVR isn't going to cut it anymore." Or perhaps they're saying "you've got an Oculus Rift – now you'll want to check out the GearVR so you don't have to be wired to your PC all the time."

Either way, cross-platform play is always an interesting adventure to be had. Especially when the devices are different.

In this case, the devices are relatively similar – controls can potentially be the exact same, while the gameplay in-VR must be similar enough to give no one side an unfair advantage.

Meanwhile, Oculus updated the VR Store "Experiences" so you can view and preview all games for either Oculus Rift or GearVR from your desktop. Easier that way when you're reading reviews out there in the wild and want to buy before you put the headset on.

There's also an Oculus Summer Sale going on right this minute for Gear VR and Oculus Rift titles of all sorts. Gunjack, Dreadhalls, ADR1FT, Elite Dangerous: Deluxe Edition and a few more are up on decent price cuts until July 5th. Have a peek.
