HTC Appoints Ex-Disney, Spotify Exec As Vive Europe GM

It’s appears to have been a period of big change for all major VR companies. Today, HTC is appointing a new General Manager for Vive in Europe in former Disney executive Paul Brown.

Brown joins the company after five years at Disney, where he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital D2C and Disney Interactive. He also spent a year and a half at Spotify as Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.

In a statement, Brown noted that VR was only at the beginning of its journey, just like music and video streaming were a decade ago (which is at least a little more refreshing an analogy than smartphones). “I am looking forward to working closely with the global Vive team to ensure we maintain and build on our position as a leader and pioneer, with our partners, in the VR space,” he said.

HTC’s Vive team continues to grow a year after the VR headset launched. Working for VR isn’t just a hardware role, though; HTC has various other services like its software storefront, Viveport, which recently launched a unique VR content subscription service.

The VR industry has been experiencing a bit of a switch up lately. While HTC makes new appointments, several high-profile staff have left Facebook’s Oculus, including Palmer Luckey, and just yesterday VR evangelist Chet Faliszek announced he had left Valve.
