Fruit Ninja VR Now Available For PlayStation VR (Update)

Update: This story originally said the game was only available in Europe, but it has since been updated to account for the US PSN release as well.

Rumors that Halfbrick’s likable VR debut, Fruit Ninja VR [Review: 8/10], would be coming to PlayStation VR soon sprung up in the past few days as, tellingly, the game’s trophy list went live out of the blue. Today, the game itself has gone live too across multiple territories.

Fruit Ninja VR is available from the European PlayStation Store for £13.99 and the US PlayStation Store for $14.99 . The game seems to be very similar to the editions that hit the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift earlier this year: you use position-tracked controllers (in this case, the PlayStation Move) to wield two swords which you must use to slash delicious chunks of fruit into pieces. It’s just like stepping into the world of the smartphone and tablet-based original.

The game seems like a good fit for PS VR seeing as it doesn’t require room-scale tracking and doesn’t really need you to turn around. It’s not a bad way to sign off the year for the headset either, and we’re sure plenty of people will get some use out of it over the holiday season.

UploadVR’s resident Games Editor, David Jagneaux, was very fond of Fruit Ninja VR when he reviewed it on Vive back in July, though it did feel like it was in need of more content.

“While Fruit Ninja VR is incredibly addicting, easy to jump into for newcomers, and tons of fun to play in its own right, it does feel a bit shallow in its current state,” he said. “You can expect it to grow significantly over time considering it already has a strong foundation. Halfbrick Studios have proven that Fruit Ninja VR is the prime example of how to take a simple concept and adapt it to the uniquely immersive medium of virtual reality.”

The game also came to Oculus Touch at the controller’s launch a few weeks back.
