Batman's Very Own Gear VR Comes In Black, Launches Next Month

We’ve already seen three models of the Gear VR, and they all come in white. In the words of Bruce Wayne: “Does it come in black?”

Batman himself is helping to make that actually happen. Samsung and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have toward announced a special collaboration to mark the third anniversary of the release of NetherRealm Studios’ DC fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us on Android. This includes an incredibly sleek-looking black edition of the company’s latest curved smartphone, the S7 edge, with a gold Batman symbol found on the back. The standard S7 won’t be included, it seems.

It looks amazing, but the video below has a bigger tease for VR fans.

The package also comes with a brand new black version of the Gear VR “in select territories” along with some Oculus VR content vouchers. Strangely, it doesn’t seem like Injustice itself will be getting a Gear VR port; we could see a VR fighting game in which you take a seat on the side lines and control one of the characters going down quite well, but we welcome the inclusion all the same. It also doesn’t look like any other DC characters will be getting their own kit, so no blue device for Superman or red for Wonder Woman right now.

Sadly this limited edition kit is indeed extremely limited. It’s set to launch early next month and so far the only confirmed territories are China, Singapore, Korea, Latin America, and Russia. No UK or US yet, but other regions will be announced soon, apparently. It’s not clear exactly how the package will be released, but you can expect it to cost a pretty penny if it’s to hit retail outlets.

As already stated, this is the first time we’ve seen Gear VR come in any other sort of variation. Can we expect to see more of these from Samsung going forward?

OTOY also has a Batman experience in the works for Gear VR, based off of the iconic animated series from the 90’s. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the project, though, so fingers crossed it’s actually still in the works.
