This article is more than 4 years old.

We’re beginning to wonder is AR band activations are news, but there are awfully good illustrations of the genre. Otherwise, the big news in XR this week is that Omni and HP are doubling the prize money for Location Based VR eSports, and haptic gloves are coming to the Oculus Quest.

AT&T Stadium augmented with photo realistic holograms thanks to 5G. Nexus Studios has turned the home of the Dallas Cowboys into an ‘Enhanced Location’ using Scape Technologies’s location recognition technology to accurately anchor AR experiences throughout the stadium. The photo realistic holograms are streamed to fan phones over 5G via a partnership between AT&T and Samsung.

BeBop Sensors builds Oculus Quest ready haptic gloves. The gloves are BeBop Sensor’s existing Forte Data Gloves and are targeted for enterprise use cases. The light weight haptics gloves are touted as being one-size-fits-all and having all day battery life. BeBop Sensors integrated their gloves with the Oculus Quest by attaching the Quest’s Touch controllers to the back of the wrists allowing each glove to be tracked using the controllers’ tracking ring. The current price has not yet been disclosed, but the gloves can be pre-ordered on BeBop Sensor’s website

Ally Bank launches AR Monopoly game in 6 US cities. In an effort to gamify the learning of money management, as well as give players a chance at cash and other prizes, Ally Bank has launched an AR Monopoly game that integrates real world locations. Is the game a tedious as real Monopoly, or just a glorified scavenger hunt? You’ll have to play it to find out for yourself. The game can be played from anywhere, but the first 6 cities to see real world activations are Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, New York, Seattle and Charlotte, North Carolina. Powered by 8th Wall webXR.

Home shopping channels get augmented in South Korea. Using a smartphone app, shoppers watching two of South Korea’s largest shopping channels can now see additional information and details about a product, live. As an example, while an item is being shown on TV, a shopper can pull up a 3D model of it and place it in their home. The app was built in partnership between eyecandylab and LG Uplus, a 5G service provider in South Korea.
