Stand back and blast your way through waves of zombies.
Before you head to the concession stand and load up on drinks and buttered up popcorn, you might want to make one more stop — if you’re brave enough. One of the leading theater groups in the United States, Regal Entertainment Group, is giving Los Angeles movie-goers a new kind of scare before they even take their seat.
Located at the Regal LA Live: A Barco Innovation Center, you can put on an HTC Vive headset and fight off hordes of flesh eating zombies while wielding swords, pistols, shotguns, and an uzi — all while in VR.
Exclusive to this Los Angeles theater location, the VR Zombie game created by Fisherman Labs is being demoed in conjunction with the Sony Pictures release Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. If you’re in the area, you can try your hand at being the last living human in this Resident Evil VR experience through this weekend (Sunday, January 29).
“Zombies have completely taken over our theatre and we need your help. Moviegoers can experience the thrill of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter on the big screen and have the opportunity to take on the zombie apocalypse in the lobby with an amazing virtual reality experience,” said Ken Thewes, Chief Marketing Officer at Regal Entertainment Group. “We are excited to partner with Sony and Fisherman Labs on this amazing VR experience at LA Live: A BARCO Innovation Center.”
The experience is free to all guests, but Resident Evil: The Final Chapter moviegoers will have a priority fast-track line. Each day, the top performer will be rewarded with a $50 Regal gift card for their assistance in stopping the zombie invasion.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, based on Capcom’s hugley popular video game series, is the final installment of the franchise. Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
The first time we saw the HTC Vive being utilized in movie theaters was back in late-2015 for Paranormal Activity. The demo was part of a promotion to coincide with the release of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and had movie-goers screaming for dear life as well. Now the only thing we need are these flip-up Vive visors, so when we get really scared, we can remind ourselves that its not real.
