‘Puzzle Bobble VR’ Arrives Next Month On Oculus Quest

Reunite with Bub and Bob for an all-new VR adventure.

Taito Corporation, the developer behind the legendary 1986 arcade game Puzzle Bobble (aka Bust-A-Move) today revealed the official release date for its upcoming VR adaptation Puzzle Bobble VR: Vacation Odyssey.

Announced last September at Facebook Connect 2020, Puzzle Bobble VR reimagines the classic action-puzzle game for the VR format. Using your Touch controllers, you’ll aim, shoot, and burst bubbles across 100 unique levels spread across an exotic island locale.

For those unfamiliar with Puzzle Bobble, the goal is to match three colors together by bursting the surrounding bubbles on the field. Like the original arcade game, you’ll have access to a variety of special items and power-ups designed to assist you in your puzzle-solving adventure. These items can be purchased using coins and feature several VR-specific interactions.

Developed by veteran VR game studio Survios (Raw Data, Sprint Vector), Puzzle Bobble VR will feature three game modes at launch:

  • Story Mode – Progress through 100 unique levels while aiming for a 3-star ranking.
  • Infinite Mode – Go for the high score as you face a never-ending wave of bubbles.
  • Online Duel Mode – Take on friends and total strangers in head-to-head online battles. You can even disrupt your opponent mid-match with jammer bubbles.

“We are excited to bring Puzzle Bobble to virtual reality through our partnership with Survios in Puzzle Bobble VR: Vacation Odyssey”, said the President of TAITO Corp. Tetsu Yamada. “VR allows us to deliver a new approach to bubble-popping, allowing long-time fans and new players to experience Puzzle Bobble like never before and just in time for Bubble Bobble’s 35th anniversary.”

Puzzle Bobble VR launches May 20th, 2021 on Oculus Quest and Quest 2 headsets.
