The Transformers were set to take their first big step into VR earlier this year on PlayStation VR and PC VR headsets, however developers Meta4 and publisher Hasbro put an indefinite hold on its first-person shooter Transformers: Beyond Reality. Now the studio says it’s launching the game on PSVR on September 1st.

Update (August 27th, 2022): Meta4 announced that Transformers: Beyond Reality is set to launch on PSVR on September 1st. The studio currently doesn’t have plans to bring the game to PC VR as previously mentioned, stating that, for now, the studio is “working with our friends at Sony as a PSVR exclusive.”

The studio notes in a tweet they’ll “see what the future brings from there,” which could mean we might see it on other VR platforms in the future. Meta4 also released a new trailer, which we linked below:

Original Article (April 10th, 2022): The on-rails arcade shooter was set to launch on PSVR and SteamVR headsets on March 31st, however a day before its intended release developers Meta4 announced the game would be delayed. Until when, we aren’t sure.

Announced in October 2021, Transformers: Beyond Reality lets you fight as a human alongside some Autobot pals, tasking you gun to down Insecticons, Decepticons, and travel to Cybertron as you “fight to save both planets from annihilation.”

It’s not certain when the game will launch. Meta4 says once they have an update, they’ll let everyone know.

Oddly enough, its launch date announcement came in late February, promising a March 31st release whilst still showing a “WORK IN PROGRESS” watermark on top of game footage.

Based in Montreal, Canada, Meta4 is known for its location-based entertainment projects such as the multiplayer arcade games Transformers VR Battle Arena and Chaos Jump. It’s also known for creating early VR experiences, such as Time Machine VR (2016) and escape room game The Other Room (20017).

  • the game didn’t have you play as a human, did it? I thought you were a new autobot recruit, they even have gameplay of you wielding autobot weapons with clearly shown robot hands.

no wonder they cancelled it…an on rails shooter…ha. thats the lamest approach to a vr game ever

What’s wrong with ‘on rails’? And they haven’t cancelled it.

Sometimes it seems like artists are way more interested in VR than programmers are.

  • Sporadik Styles

This would also make a great light gun game and give them more sales.

  • Tommy

I’m not a huge fan of on-rail shooters but one of my favorite VR games is exactly that. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is outstanding and I wish they would make another one. With that said, I would like to try this one before writing it off because it’s on-rails.

  • So you are telling me that… Meta4 is not going to release the game for Meta?

  • So they cancel it, retool it a bit, and then release it as a console exclusive, chopping their own arms off by not releasing it on the biggest platform, the Quest, or on multiple platforms so they can reach the widest audience. Not a good choice, and I love Sony. Hope PSVR 2 is a success at least so more people get a chance to play this rail shooter

    • Sky Castle

What’s worst is we don’t know if PSVR games will be backwards compatible with PSVR2. With an already limited amount of quality VR games PSVR2 needs all the games it can get.

  • sfmike

I could care less about PlayStation 4 games at this point, and it sucks we have to wait until next year for the PSVR 2.

  • Sky Castle

With games like these people wonder why VR is not taking off. A game like this deserves an open world with deep story single player content. But what do we get again? What seems to be another “VR experience” that I bet will be only a few hours long.

    • Andrew Jakobs

That’s probably why it’s only released for the PSVR.

    • NL_VR

nah i dont know about open world.
i would like storydriven single player games yes, but a open world insnt neccesary.
there is a lot of open world flatscreen games and most of them are crap and verry much because its open world.. thats open but boring.

  • mirak

    trash

  • Santana

    Lmao rail shooters in 2022

    • Andrew Jakobs

What’s wrong with railshooters? I really like those.

      • Santana

They’re just lame for me, I feel like I’m not in control

  • Andrew Jakobs

Oh come on, this is really getting ridiculous, stop updating about every old article, just write a new one and link to the old one.

  • Jeremiah Tothenations

Sony love buying exclusivity, it’s one reason I’ll never buy a PlayStation. All of these PSVR2 1+2 exclusives better come to PC eventually or I’ll be pissed.

    • ApocalypseShadow

Guess you’re going to be extremely pissed going forward with PS VR 2. There’s going to be a bunch more.

I guess you don’t buy Nintendo or Microsoft systems either as they have exclusives too.

      • Jeremiah Tothenations

Microsoft doesn’t have any exclusives, they all come out on PC. I don’t buy Nintendo systems though, they need to bring their games to PC as well.

Sony are bringing more and more of their games to PC and its obvious that at least some of the PSVR2 exclusives are timed.

So I’m not too too worried.

        • ApocalypseShadow

Did you buy a Quest 2? It has exclusives not on other platforms like RE4. Future exclusives like GTA SA and Assassin’s Creed not announced for other platforms. And, not all of Microsoft’s games have come to PC. I could name off a list of past and present games not on PC.

Sony will make more PC ports but it’s not their job to prop up Epic or Valve platforms. PlayStation is their bread and butter so they’ll get games or make games to support the product they make. That only makes sense for every business out there that sells a product.

But again, not all of the games coming to PS VR 2 are coming to PC. Besides pushing for and making high quality games and hardware, I don’t see any reasons why a gamer wouldn’t buy a PlayStation or support their efforts. And, it’s the only console company pushing forward with VR. That deserves support one way or the other.

          • Jeremiah Tothenations

I’m all for no exclusivity, I bought a Quest 2 because I love VR, even despite how much I hate Facebook. They should bring their exclusives to other platforms as well imho.

Thankfully, exclusivity is going the way of the Dodo for the most part. If I have to wait several years for it to come to PC, then I can wait.

        • ViRGiN

“its obvious that at least some of the PSVR2 exclusives are timed”
Ah, what a degenerate desperate still hopping someone will post their best games that are console-sellers to their shitty PCVR where it will have a peak of 76 concurrent players, while rec room still has 2000+ for half a day.

    • ViRGiN

      get pissed, and piss off.
nobody cares about your obsolete babies toys.

you hate exclusivity, yet buy 100% of the games on steam, THE ONLY RIGHT STORE.
