IMAX VR Launches Official Website

IMAX releases more details on its exciting new VR project.

IMAX has finally launched imaxvr.imax.com, the official website of the upcoming IMAX VR Experience Centre, a new kind of facility designed to deliver highly-quality virtual reality adventures using the most advanced technology currently available. According to the site, IMAX VR Experience Centres will include:

  • Room-tracking technology that will allow players to explore expansive virtual spaces
  • Single-player and head-to-head multiplayer competition
  • State-of-the-art VR headset technology and image resolution
  • Control devices that provide realistic haptic feedback

Players will enter the facility and strap into a custom VR set-up located in their own personal futuristic pod. The website promises advanced roomscale motion detection as well as haptic feedback, but doesn’t specify which particular devices the pod will include. Earlier reports have confirmed however that Starbreeze’s spec-heavy StarVR headset will be shipping to IMAX VR Experience Centres, and images of the HTC Vive can be seen on the page, so it’s safe to assume the facilities will feature a combination of both.

Thanks to a wide array of partnerships with some of the top names in the industry, several high-profile games and experiences will be available almost immediately. Available at launch will be the awe-inspiring Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine, the action-packed John Wick Chronicles, the super-popular shooter Raw Data, the hysterical multiplayer title Eagle Flight, Raving Rabbids, The Walk and Escape The Basement. IMAX VR teamed up with The Walking Dead this year to bring an exclusive experience to Manchester’s Odeon Cinema, so expect new games and adventures to be added as time goes on.

The United States flagship IMAX VR Experience Centre will be located in South Fairfax, Los Angeles, California. Tickets are not currently available, but keep an eye on imaxvr.imax.com to stay up to date on all the latest information.
