Potential details emerge regarding the companies long-rumored VR/AR device.
According to a new report by The Information, a source with immediate knowledge of Apple’s hardware claims that the companies highly-anticipated combination VR/AR device could launch as soon as next year alongside a suite of impressive features.
The report claims that the upcoming headset could feature dual ultra high definition 8K displays with built-in eye-tracking technology. Surrounding the headset will supposedly be over 12 cameras capable of supporting hand-tracking. The report states that the headset’s visor will be capable of combining virtual elements with footage of the real world, allowing for unique mixed reality experiences on top of standard VR.
In addition to visuals, the source states that this VR/AR device will feature support for swappable headbands, allowing you to customize the headset based on your immediate needs. One headband, for instance, would enable spatial audio technology similar to that of the AirPods, while another could extend the overall battery life. Each of these additional headbands is said to be made of a mesh-like material and could be available in multiple colors upon release.
Apparently, the device itself would be controlled in a multitude of ways, including a “thimble-like device to be worn on a person’s finger.”
As for pricing, the report states that Apple is considering a price tag of $3,000, though—like all of the information provided above—this has yet to be confirmed. Supposedly, the company is looking to ship 250,000 units within the first year of release.
