K-Pop Stars from BlackPink Debut New AR Feature on Candy Crush Friends Saga for Samsung Galaxy Note10 & Note10+

In recent days we've covered the marriage of augmented reality and top-tier music artists. This time, though, the music stars are showing off the tech rather than integrating it into their act.

On Tuesday, Lisa and Jisoo, two members of one of the biggest K-Pop groups on the planet, BlackPink, gave gamers a sneak peek at the new AR features in Candy Crush Friends Saga.

The feature is called "Hungry Yeti" and it allows Candy Crush Friends Saga players to interact with a character from the game via AR. Additionally, owners of the new Samsung Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ can use their S Pen stylus as a kind of AR controller.

To initialize the AR experience players point their device at a flat surface and watch as a virtual portal opens, and the "hungry Yeti" appears. Getting the Yeti to dance happens with a rapid shake of the S Pen.

"Our teams are always on the lookout for new ways to enhance our players' experience, and with augmented reality becoming increasingly popular with consumers today, it felt like the right time to introduce it into the Candy Crush franchise for the first time," said Marcus Lewold, head of the Candy Crush franchise at King, the interactive studio behind the game.

Although the integration of BlackPink was done to promote the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note10 and Note10+, the AR feature in the game can be played on a wide range of Android devices including the Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+ and S10 5G, Galaxy Note9, Galaxy S9 and S9+, and other Samsung mobile devices using Android 8.0 or later.

However, there's a catch: Only players who reach level 25 and above will be able to access the special AR feature, which officially goes live in the app on August 30th.
