This Week In XR: HiiDii Smartglasses, Post Malone Brings It To Oculus Venues, Floor Mat Sensor From Microsoft, Zero Latency Free Roam Nears 50 Locations

Say Hi To HiiiDii Smartglasses. Using a combination of blink-detection and gyroscope technologies users can control devices by dragging and clicking using eye blinks and head movements. The clear glasses from GWD accept normal prescription lenses and include a 10-hour battery life and 30-foot Bluetooth range. The HiiDii glasses will work with Windows, Mac OS and Android, and only require a one-hour charge. They’re on kickstarter now with ship date of 2020.

Post Malone broadcasting concert to Oculus Venues for free. On October 17th, Post Malone’s Runaway Tour is headed to the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC. The concert there will be broadcast in VR for three and a half hours via Oculus Venues. Oculus Venues is currently available only for owners of Oculus Go or Quest headsets. 

Microsoft VR floor mat patent from was published last week. The mat would sense a player’s position and detect their footsteps, and judging by the filing’s image, be located in an open living room in front of a Kinect sensor and game console. Zero Latency doubles their speed with HP hardware partnership. Since partnering with HP, who supplies the Zero Latency free roam VR venues with Windows Mixed Reality headsets and backpack PCs, Zero Latency has gone from two system installations a month to one a week. The free roam VR company is now approaching 50 total locations.

Image Metrics launches AR platform LUNAR. With LUNAR, Image Metrics intends to make the creation of AR experiences simpler for companies wanting to use the technology for marketing and customer engagement, without being tied to apps like Snapchat or Instagram. The platform is built to integrate with existing iOS or Android apps, or run standalone.
