The Biggest PSVR Releases For The Week 09/16/18

Time to get your wallet out; there are a total of seven new experiences arriving on PSVR this week, and a good number of them are well worth checking out for yourself.

The Chantry, from Steel Minions
Price: £4.49 (EU Only)

Another student project from Sheffield Hallam University, The Chantry transports players back to 200 years ago to explore the home of Edward Jenner, the controversial doctor that helped cure smallpox. Faithfully recreated with high-quality visuals, this is a chance to learn about one of the most important figures in medical science.

Transference, from Spectrevision
Price: $24.99

The latest VR game published by Ubisoft is this incredibly intense psychological thriller that mixes live-action footage with full CG environments for an assault on the sense like no other. Explore a series of disturbing experiments that take you on a descent into madness in this gloomy game, which is only recommended for the bravest amongst us. We really like Transference, even if it is on the short side.

Blind, from Tiny Bull Studios
Price: $24.99

Blind is a VR puzzle game in which you play as a woman that’s lost her sight. Held captive in a giant mansion, you explore your surroundings using echolocation, tapping surfaces with a white cane to create a temporary view of the world around you. It’s got a thoughtful presentation behind it, but the infuriating puzzles make the game far too much of a slog to see through.

Downward Spiral: Horus Station, from 3rd Eye Studios
Price: $19.99

One of our favorite PSVR games of the year is finally available on PSVR. Downward Spiral is a sci-fi adventure in which you explore the remains of an abandoned space station, trying to work out what happened to the crew. It uses brilliant zero gravity traversal and thrilling shootouts to really immersive you in its world. This is an atmospheric adventure you won’t want to miss.

The Door, from Skonec Entertainment
Prce: TBA

The developers of Mortal Blitz return with a new escape room-style VR puzzler. The Door looks like a chilling experience in which you solve puzzles and avoid death by zombie chomping as you uncover the origins of a virus outbreak. We can’t tell you if this’ll be worth your time although, frankly, we wouldn’t hold our breath.

Trickster VR: Dungeon Crawler, from Trickster Games
Price: $14.99

A pretty popular Early Access dungeon crawler heads from PC to PS4 this week. Trickster offers plenty of Orc-slaying using the usual assortment of swords, crossbows and more. Gather loot and fight your way through 35 different levels. While we like Trickster on PC, it’s important to point out the PSVR version doesn’t have four-player co-op (yet), and it might be best to wait until it does.

Unearthing Mars 2, from Winking VR
Price: $19.99

A sequel no one was expecting, or particularly asking for, Unearthing Mars 2 shifts genre from adventure to shooter and takes you on an exploration of humanity’s lost past. Whilst it uses the PlayStation Aim controller and sports some impressive visuals, the repetitive, uninteresting gameplay and nonsensical plot make its two hour runtime a chore. We’d avoid, sadly.
