Watch Microsoft's New VR Controllers In Action

We were pretty impressed with Microsoft’s new motion controllers for its Windows Mixed Reality VR headsets when we went hands-on with them earlier this week, though we weren’t able to show you them in action. Fortunately, one VR developer has the footage.

You may remember when Sean Ong unboxed the controllers earlier this month, giving us our first look at them outside of Microsoft’s own press materials. Today, though, Ong posted his impressions of actually using the devices in VR, complete with plenty of footage of them in action. You can see the video below.

Ong’s thoughts on the controllers seem to be in-line with our own; they’re pretty remarkable considering they offer six degrees of freedom (6DOF) tracking using sensors embedded on the headset itself and not external devices placed around the room. You’re not able to use as them effectively behind your back or anything (though rotational tracking still works out of sensor sight), but as long as they’re in front of you you’ll experience reliable tracking.
