Arizona Sunshine Hits PSVR Today, Good Luck Finding Aim Controllers

Arizona Sunshine, UploadVR’s 2016 Game of the Year, finally comes to PlayStation VR (PSVR) today. We’ll have impressions later on but, based on what I played at a preview event last month it’s a great port, and using the new Aim Controller makes for one of the best ways to play.

Good luck actually trying to find one of the new controllers, though.

Aim arrived back in May as a bundle with Impulse Gear’s Farpoint. The $75 bundle was the only way to get hold of the rifle-shaped controller, which was acceptable seeing as Farpoint was one of two games to use it at the time (the other being Dick Wilde) and easily the best way to experience the game. Since release, though, the bundle has pretty consistently been out of stock. Major retailers both in the US and EU haven’t had units on offer for weeks.

As a result, opportunistic third-party sellers have been selling new and second-hand units at jacked up prices. If you were to try and hunt one down on eBay right now you’d be looking at paying at least $50 more for the bundle, and maybe even the controller as a standalone device.

We’ve reached out to Sony to ask about supply issues with the controller but we haven’t heard back at the time of publication.

Fortunately you can still play Arizona with two PlayStation Move controllers or even the DualShock 4 (though we don’t recommend that). The motion controller option is just like you’d find on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

It’s a still shame, though, as based on what I played I genuinely preferred playing Arizona with the Aim Controller, and I suspect that’s going to be the case for a lot VR shooters in the months and weeks to come. Hopefully Sony can get the kit back on shelves soon — perhaps with an optional standalone version — so that every PSVR owner can enjoy the experience.
