First-Person Angry Birds Game Announced For Magic Leap One

One mobile gaming’s most prolific franchises arrives on the Magic Leap One this fall.

Since the launch of its first game in 2009, popular mobile franchise Angry Birds has received an astonishing 17 different releases, 4 spin-off games, a comic book series, even an animated film voiced by a cast of A-list celebrities.

Now the seemingly unkillable franchise has set it sights on the world of immersive content with a new AR game that presents the series from a brand new perspective.

Available this fall on the Magic Leap One Creator Edition MR headset, Angry Birds FPS: First Person Slingshot immerses players in the colorful worlds of Angry Birds, allowing them to look down the sights of their slingshot and takes down hordes of villanous green pigs as they would in real-life (a totally common, everyday activity). All the classic elements of an Angry Birds game are present, only this time instead of looking at a 2D screen, the structures and enemies are overlaid onto the real-world, allowing you to blow up towers on your coffee table and watch as pigs fly across your room.

“We’re excited to expand the Angry Birds brand and universe to new and emerging platforms like Magic Leap, delivering fans a unique way to engage with their favorite characters,” spoke Kati Levoranta, CEO at Rovio Entertainment, in an official release. Resolution Games has done an incredible job bringing Angry Birds to life in a new experience that will let players see and feel what it’s like to battle the pigs like never before.”

“It has been an incredible experience bringing Rovio’s massively successful and beloved entertainment franchise to mixed reality,” adds Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games. “Developing for the Magic Leap platform was a very unique and inspiring process for our team, and we’re confident fans will love how the game is brought to life.”

According to a recent hands-on demonstration conducted by The Verge, players are encouraged to physically walk around the room in order to inspect the digital playspace from fresh angles. These new perspectives will assist them in locating well-hidden piggies and buried TNT barrels. Minor interactions from the digital characters, such as your bird “ammo” following you around as you switch positions, or pig enemies giving you a nasty look as you peek in for a closer look, add an extra layer of immersion, as well as sillyness, to the experience.

Angry Birds FPS: First Person Slingshot, was developed by Finnish game developer, Rovio Entertainment, in collaboration with Resolution Games, a Sweden-based game developer focused on VR and AR entertainment. The title is expected to launch on Magic Leap One Creator Edition headsets this fall.
