Esports will be medaled events at the Asian Games 2022

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has announced that eight video games will be included as medaled events for the Asian Games 2022. The games will be Street Fighter V, Hearthstone, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile Asian Games Version, Dota 2, League of Legends, Arena of Valor Asian Games Version, EA Sports FIFA, and Dream Three Kingdom 2.

The Asian Games is a continental multisport event that is held every four years where athletes from Asia compete against each other in various sports for medals. It is very similar to the Olympics, however, it focuses solely on Asia. Video games have been part of the Asian Games in the past, but mainly were only demonstration events, so the medals won during these events were not counted toward countries’ medal total.

The Asian Electronic Sports Federation, or the AESF, will be the technical delegate of this new branch of the Asian Games. It will handle the operation and the management of the esports competition.

This will be the second time the International Olympic Committee will recognize esports as a medaled event. The Asian Games 2018 was the first time video games were entered as medaled events. The games for that event were Dota 2, Starcraft II, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, and Tekken 7.

The Asian Games 2022 will be held in Hangzhou, China, and will start this month.

How many games featured in Xbox’s 2022 showcase actually launched within 12 months?

At Microsoft's June 2022 Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, the publisher made a lofty promise. It said that every game shown off would be released within a year of the showcase.

That's not exactly how things panned out, though. During a May 4 interview on Kinda Funny's XCast podcast, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer admitted that Xbox "didn't deliver" when that promise was mentioned. Though there are still a few weeks left for Xbox to make good on its promise, it seems unlikely that every game shown at its 2022 presentation will indeed launch as planned.

FaZe Clan’s first all-female esports team is ready for the pressure

In early March 2023, well-known professional esports and entertainment organization FaZe Clan announced that it had signed its first all-female esports team. Competing under FaZe Clan’s Valorant banner, the team features five pro players who are already pretty known within the esports space: Jennifer "refinnej" Le, Emma "emy" Choe, Vannesa Emely "panini" Emory, Madison "maddiesuun" Mann, and Diane "di^" Tran. The announcement of this new team brings FaZe Clan’s team roster up to a total of 14 teams.

"It's been a long time coming but we're stoked to officially announce bringing on our first all female esports pro team for Valorant," Erik Anderson, Head of Esports at FaZe Clan, said in the team’s announcement press release. "Signing this group of talented women is just the beginning of bringing female gamers to the forefront at FaZe and I can't wait to watch them play as a team.”
