Double Fine, the studio behind cult classic Psychonauts (2005), last year announced a PSVR exclusive, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, a direct continuation of the original story. Now the company has set the game’s release date and released a new 360 trailer.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin follows a band of psychic spies who are attempting to rescue a captured comrade. As Double Fine’s first VR game (and the first for the Psychonauts series), Rhombus of Ruin makes use of PlayStation VR to allow the player to use psychic powers to jump into the minds of others and see the world from their perspective. This affords the game a natural locomotion method that fits with the main theme of the game’s universe.

Announced via the official PlayStation Blog, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin will launch as a PSVR exclusive on February 21st. The price of the game has not yet been announced.

This is not Psychonauts 2; it’s a standalone chapter of the Psychonauts saga — a mind-bending adventure puzzle game made from the ground up for VR that will chronicle the events between the first Psychonauts and its forthcoming sequel, [Psychonauts 2].

The story picks up exactly where it left off at the end of Psychonauts, with Raz, Lili, Sasha, Milla, and Coach Oleander flying off to rescue Truman Zannotto, the Grand Head of the Psychonauts. Their mission takes them straight into the heart of the Rhombus of Ruin — a mysterious part of the ocean as deadly as two Bermuda Triangles back to back!

When the rescue party itself is kidnapped and held prisoner in the Rhombus, Raz is immobilized and must use only his psychic powers to reunite his friends, reveal the identity of the mysterious kidnapper, and free Truman before the madness of the Rhombus consumes all their minds!

Double Fine has revealed a 360 trailer that captures a segment directly from the game:

  • Looks neat, too bad i’m never going to own a ps4 since i’m all PC + Oculus or Cardboard. But I did fund Psychonauts 2, so I have that going for me.
